Welcoming Bebe

In April, I was thrown the most thoughtful, beautiful, baby shower a girl could ask for.
My mom and I decided to make a girl's weekend trip out of it, and flew out to Los Angeles to welcome the little snuglet in in style. Surrounded by many of my most favorite of women, I, along with baby, were showered
(pun-intended)
with love, laughter, awesome food, and super generous gifts.

At this point, I hadn't shared what The Man and I were expecting, so it was a fun shower game
(the ONLY shower game mind you! PRAISE!!)
as my girlies cast their votes on
A) Boy or Girl?
and
B) What his/her name would be.

["Thor" was amongst my favorites.]
Here are some snaps from the day, enjoy!

The Dirty Thirty

this past week!

Now...I know that I haven't been blogging for a few weeks, but life for us has been really busy, REALLY! (That's always the excuse isn't it?)
But you see, sometimes I can have this awful habit of being so concerned about catching the moment, that I fail to actually be present in it. Therefore, I took a little hiatus from the blog world to, well, enjoy the real world.

As these weeks have passed, on top of my daily activities, I have really only been doing one thing.
Getting bigger.
I seriously look like I am trying to smuggle a beach ball in and out of various places all over the beautiful state of  Colorado.
But BIG is beautiful, especially in this case.
Witness!?

Anyway, as I stated above, my darling hubs has officially reached the Dirty Thirty. And it has never looked better. I know many people dread the day when their 20's come to an end, but if you ask me, I think it only always gets better.

SO, being financially challenged as we are in this stage of life, I wanted to make my husband's 30th birthday as special as it could possibly be....with the limited resources that we posses.
Therefore, instead of making it a birthDAY, I opted for much more fun birthWEEK.

I began Part 1 with a surprise serenade at our weekly community group with a homemade Vanilla Coconut cake (with GOLD sprinkles!!).
We sang, and laughed, and really made a night of it.
(Not my best photo..be kind ;) )
The next morning, (Robert's actual birthday), Part 2 commenced.
I was finally able to give him the gift that I had been working on for a few months.
I knew that turning 30 in a new place, far away from family and our friends in Los Angeles was going to be hard for him (whether he chose to divulge that information or not ;) ). So, a few months ago I reached out to some of The Man's closest family and friends and asked if they would be willing to send a little special note of love and encouragement to Robert on his special day.
I have to say, they sent the WARMEST sentiments!!
From there, I printed out all of the letters (30 in total) and placed them in mini envelopes and attached them to 30 golden balloons
(that I strategically smuggled into the house without him seeing, mind you).
That morning....at 5:00am...I got up and filled our bedroom with the 30 golden balloons and 30 notes of love for Robert to wake up to.
I was making so much noise that I started to giggle...which then made me snort...which then made me giggle harder. But miraculously HE DIDN'T WAKE UP!? And my surprise was able to stay in tact.
The next morning Robert awoke to a forest of balloons, and it made his day :)
Part 3 of Robert's birthday was literally only made possible because of the generosity of my parents. They gifted us with a weekend of their time share up in the mountains. A much needed getaway for The Man and I.
We made meals, visited Buffalo Bill's grave?, roasted s'mores, and just relaaaaaaaaxed.
All in all, I think it is safe to say that my husband's 30th birthday extravaganza was a great success!
Happy Birthday Robert! I sure do love you.
Welcome, to your 30's.

The Bug, The Itch, The Frustration

Does anyone mind if I vent for a second?
I guess I'm not really giving you a choice in the matter since I'm the one blogging here haha, but none the less I just wanted to ask.
See, I have always had a love/hate relationship with social media (says the girl with the blog) but seriously, it's true. As we all know too well, social media can sometimes create this false version of reality. One where we all look perfect in every picture, only post the most amazing adventures, wittiest quips, and allow others to voyeur in our lives... or at least the version of our lives we are willing to share.
I find myself in such a place today.
Lately, I have had this itch...this bug...
to travel.
to adventure.
to bask in the discoveries of some little corner of the world. Just me and The Man.
And here I am on one such social media site voyuering in on old friends and drooling over the amazing travel they are partaking in.

How do they do it!?
How do they just pick up and go!?
Do they save and save and save, or just throw caution to the wind and figure it out as they go??

These are the questions that plague me today.
In fact, this is a frustration and an area in my heart I have struggled with often; comparing my "back stage" parts of life to everyone else's "highlight reel."
Does that make sense? Am I alone in this?
Honestly, it's a very dangerous game one plays with themselves, because it creates in you a deep discontent with where you are. It makes you feel like you should be doing more, or should be making more, or living life more, and everything around you tells you that that is 100% true.
Is that too vulnerable for a blog?
Ugh, whatever, who cares if it is. That's the point of a blog right? And I always want to be honest...

I think the real thing is with the unexpected busyness this season has brought, and the busyness that I know is on the horizon, I find myself just longing for some alone time for Robert and I; a time and place where him and I can get away and experience something...or some place...new together. You know what I mean?
There is just nothing better than adventuring with your best friend.
.......................................
One of the best adventures him and I have shared together was our honeymoon. We had a very unique courtship/engagement; most of which was spent long distance. Which is romantic and hard all at the same time. So, when we got married, and were finally in the same place at the same time for good, we purposed ourselves to have a long honeymoon together.
We spent one week in Paris (I. KNOW.) and one week driving up the coast of California.
Today I find myself daydreaming of that trip.
And wanting to plot our next one...
[deep breath]
...So, until then...

Colorado Or Bust

WE MADE IT!
One snow storm, two days, and 19 hours later we finally made it to Colorado.
Thank you Jesus for seeing us here safely.
The journey was full of a mixture of quite bitter and quite sweet....and maybe I cried once four times.
On our last two nights in California, we gathered with some of our closest friends to celebrate Christmas together, and to say goodbye.
Les Miserables, mouth watering food, pizza bites, a competitive game of Monopoly, and many hugs and tears were involved in these days.
I simply simply simply cannot believe our season in Los Angeles is over.
(Typing this Im about to lose it.)
But now it is time to see what God has in store for us in Colorado.... all -1 degrees of it.
Here are some snaps from our time on the road
XO.
And here is where this trip got even crazier..
So, I had to sell my car before leaving California because the poor thing had absolutely no chance of making it :(
Well, we pull up to my parents house, and here is what is waiting for me; bow and all.
My parents, being so generous, gave me their old car to have!
Blessed girl.
